cd

I just picked up a cd from the library called the Altar Boyz. I like the music, but looked it up online and found mixed reviews. From what I've gathered, it's either "bad" and mocking Christianity or it's harmless, fun, and sweet. Has anyone heard anything about it and could clear this up for me? Or what do you think of it? :?

I've heard of these guys. Personally I think they're hilarious... but they aren't necessarily "harmless." I think it has to do with somebody's ability to take a joke. Some people are too stuck in "defense mode" and they wouldn't get it. And if you don't get it, it will be offensive. Which is usually the case with satire.
On the other hand, I think Jesus would think it was funny. They aren't making fun of God as much as they are some of the silly things out there in the name of Christendom (and there are PLENTY!)
Personally, I think these guys do a better job of not taking everything seriously, which is something I wish more "Christian" performers would do. So taken with a grain of salt, I think these guys would have a spot on "Heaven's Got Talent," if you catch my drift.
For a little history, they are characters from an off-Broadway musical, which I think was developed form a book. What do you think now that you've had a chance to listen?

I enjoy the music- it's fun to listen to. It doesn't offend me; I was just a little surprised. The cd is set up like a normal Christian band- they have profiles of each of the 5 guys and a message from their "pastor." So I'm all like, this is cool! Then I looked it up online and found out that the whole thing is a musical and the members of the band are actually actors. I have to say I was a little disappointed. Anyway, I like the music, although I get the feeling that there's a lot of stuff I'm not picking up on.

Different thing, similar question.
Has anyone read/heard of The Red Tent by Anita Diamant? I've had it recommended to me, and I know it's based on the story of Dinah in the Old Testament, but I haven't heard much else. I looked it up online and found mixed reviews.
